Gabions are free-draining walls constructed by filling large baskets with broken stone. The baskets are made from galvanised steel mesh, woven strips, or plastic mesh. The permeability and flexibility of gabions make them suitable where the retained material is likely to be saturated and where the bearing quality of the soil is poor.

Wire Mesh gabions have two forms, baskets which are used for walls and mattresses which are used for revetments and river linings. Double Twisted Hexagonal Mesh Gabion Baskets have been used world wide for retaining wall, slope stabilization, channel lining, rockfall protection and many other applications for over 100 years. Due to the low cost long term solution double twisted mesh gabions provide for these applications their usage has become common place with many Government Agencies, and Private Land Developments etc.As gabion usage grew domestically, the requirement for an industry standard of product quality became vital to ensure material consistency.
